1. Pumphrey Law Firm Scholarship

Pumphrey Law is a criminal defense firm in Tallahassee, Florida. This firm has established a semi-annual scholarship for college students, in particular for those who have succeeded in academics and demonstrate good character in the community. The scholarship selects three winners in first, second, or third place; first place is $750, second place is $500, and 3rd place is $250. The scholarship funds are applied directly to college-related expenses.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be accepted or enrolled in a U.S.-based, accredited college or university
  • Applicant must submit an 800-1,000-word essay based on the application’s specified topics
  • Applicant must be a U.S. resident

2. Student of the Year Scholarship – Palm Beach Area

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has established a “Student of the Year” scholarship for high school students in the Palm Beach area. This scholarship is awarded through an LLS fundraising competition, where the student(s) who raises the most money is awarded $5,000; this scholarship can be applied to the college of the student’s choice. Runners-up receive $1,000.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a high school student enrolled or accepted to an accredited college/university
  • Applicant must both complete an application and be interviewed by LLS staff
  • Applicant must be a U.S. resident

3. Arts for Life! Scholarship Program

The Arts for Life! Scholarship awards 25 high school seniors, exclusively in Florida, who have gifts for the arts. The arts included in this scholarship are dance, music, drama, visual art, or creative writing. A selection process is conducted by a panel of judges, where each submitted arts sample is reviewed. Once the winning high school students are selected, there is a luncheon in their honor. The Arts for Life! scholarship awards $1,000 to each student.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must submit a portfolio
  • Applicant must submit an essay describing “How the arts have positively influenced my life”
  • Applicant must be a graduating high school student in the state of Florida

4. Rick and Sherry Murray Medical Futures Scholarship

The Florida chapter of the ALS Association, based in Tampa, established a scholarship for future medical students. The particular medical students being awarded have had a spouse, parent, or grandparent diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be accepted or enrolled in a U.S.-based, accredited college or university
  • Applicant must be a legal resident of Florida
  • Applicant must be either majoring in a medically-related degree, or in a medically-related certification program

5. American Legion Department of Florida Scholarships

Since 1919, The American Legion has been an advocate for the needs of veterans and their families. Among the local chapters is the American Legion in Florida; this location has a range of scholarships, spanning general to more focused awards. The majority of the awards are given from 1st place ($2,500) to 4th place ($500).

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be accepted or enrolled in a U.S.-based, accredited college or university
  • Applicant and parents must be legal residents in the state of Florida
  • Applicant must be a direct descendant of a veteran (alive or deceased) who would have been eligible for an American Legion membership
