The BLS reports that software application developers earned an average annual wage of $106,710 as of May 2017. The average hourly wage for these individuals is $51.30.

Information Security Analyst

Information security analysts are often responsible for the security of a company. They monitor the company’s networks and look for security violations or breaches. If a breach is found, the information security analyst determines what type of security the network needs and installs the appropriate software. They also deal with data encryption programs and firewalls.

With advances in technology and constant security threats, the information security analysts have an on-going job of keeping the network safe from cyber-attacks. As of a May 2017 BLS report, information security analysts earned an average yearly wage of $99,690 with the average hourly wage of $47.93. These workers may experience an employment growth of 28 percent from 2016-2026.

Computer Systems Analyst

Computer systems analysts analyze and monitor an organization’s computer systems and develop solutions to make the business operate more effectively and efficiently. Using their knowledge of information technology and business, they prepare reports and cost analyses charts to present to management on the best methods. Other duties include designing new systems; configuring software and hardware; researching new technologies; conducting system testing; training users and work with other IT members.

They also oversee the configuration and installation of new systems. Computer systems analyst are expected to experience job growth of nine percent between 2016 and 2026 according to the bureau. These professionals earned an average annual wage of $92,740 and average hourly wages of $44.59 in 2017.

Database Administrator

Database administrators are in charge of the storage, retrieval, maintenance and security of an organization’s data. Database administrators also test the database system to make sure it’s operating as efficiently as possible and determine who does and doesn’t have access to data. As of May 2017, database administrators earned average annual and hourly wages of $89,050 and $44.59, respectively. The BLS predicts that these workers can see an employment growth of 11 percent during the decade of 2016-2026.

Computer Network Architect

One of the top jobs in management information systems is that of the computer network architects. These are the professionals who design and build various types of communication networks. Computer network architects analyze and familiarize themselves with the company’s needs and business goals. Once that’s been determined, they create a plan and present it to management for approvals.

Their other duties include analyzing security needs, upgrading computer hardware, researching new networking technology and troubleshoot any issues the network may have. Computer network architects are expected to see a six percent job growth from 2016-2026 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). As of May 2017, computer network architects earned an average annual wage of $107,870 with the average hourly wage at $51.86.
